刚刚进入通幽学院的生员，通常都被平均分配在外舍六房。
这六房的生员经过学院一年的培养，大约有三分之一在激发气血之后，能够站在非凡武者的门槛跟前。
这三分之一的优秀生员，便会在第二年升入内舍继续培养。
还有大约三分之一的劣等生员，在激发气血之后始终难以得到进步，便会在第二年全数黜落，淘汰出通幽学院。
剩下的大约三分之一的生员，虽然达不到气血境后期，但也属于可堪造就，则继续留在外舍进行一年的培养。
这部分生员便被称为外舍二级生员，也被戏称为“留级生”！
但这些“留级生”想要在第二学年结束之后再次升入内舍，标准便又有不同。
